About the Event
Summer Academy
The Summer Academy is a high school pre-college program for rising grades 9-12. The program is held as a one-week intensives in July. Courses at taught by Centenary University Professors. Select programs taught by industry professionals.
The Structure
Each program offers overnight accommodations in air-conditioned residence halls with three meals and evening activities. Commuters are provided lunch daily and may also sign up for a dinner plan if they intend to stay for evening activities. Click here to see the schedule and costs about the programs offered. Courses are held Monday through Friday from 9-4pm, with orientation on Sunday for both commuters and residential students. Residential students arrive on Sunday and depart on Saturday morning. Evening activities begin after dinner at 7pm. Commuters are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Chris Young, adjunct Professor of Theatre at Centenary University
An M.F.A. graduate from the Professional Actor Training Program of Ohio University. While at Ohio University, Chris performed in several main stage and studio productions including, Holiday, Proof, Dianna of Dobson, The Idiot, Spike Heels and the world premiere workshop of War is F**king Awesome by NYC's Vampire Cowboys. Chris spent two summer seasons, 2010and 2012, as a company actor with the Monomoy Theatre in Chatham, Massachusetts. In 2011,Chris was a resident actor with the Oxford Shakespeare Festival in Oxford, Mississippi and the title character in Valley Young Company's production of Hamlet in New Brunswick, Canada. Other credits include work with Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre, 12 Miles West Theatre Co., Alliance Repertory Theatre and Vampire Cowboys (NYC). CSC credits include; Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Learned Ladies, Start Down, The Nether, Harvey, The Liar and Quartermaine's Terms. Recent film credits include; Hunter's Weekend, My Dad and Bob Todd, Hotel(winner Best Actor, Atlantic City Cinefest and streaming on Amazon Prime), Jess Archer Vs. (streaming on Amazon Prime) and Star Crossed Lovers (streaming on Amazon Prime).
Chris is an alumnus of Centenary University where he earned a B.A. in Theatre with a concentration in performance. He is an adjunct faculty member of the Centenary University Theatre Department and a member of Actor's Equity Association.
Stephen Davis, Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Centenary University
Stephen Davis is an Associate Professor of Theatre Arts at Centenary University, the Program Director for Shakesperience: NJ, and a proud member of the Actor's Equity Association. Stephen has a B.F.A.in acting from The Theatre School at DePaul University, as well as an M.F.A. in directing from USC, where he received the Two Thumbs Up Teaching Award for making a difference in the lives of students with learning disabilities. While at Centenary, Professor Davis was honored with both the 2014-2015 Distinguished Teacher of the Year Award andthe2010-2011 United Methodist Exemplary Teaching Award. He teaches classes to all ages in Shakespeare, stage combat, theatrical makeup, acting, directing, playwriting, video production and movement for the theatre.
